Lily: Queen of the Universe
My art often speaks to subconscious fears that stem from the uncertainties of childhood, from a childlike perspective. However Lily: Queen of the Universe, illustrates a child's inner strength, spunk, and incredible ability to imagine and believe her fantasy. Using deliberately selected props—wooden star wand, plastic jewelry, glitter-studded cardboard crown, pink sunglasses, and a funky hand painted multi-colored chair for a throne, Lily gives her fantasy flight, and for that moment in time, she is truly "Queen of the Universe".
This oil painting is currently in Fragmentos: Pilar Acevedo at the National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago through July 13, 2014.
